VINE Program Encounters Information Sharing Problem

Early this morning, beginning after 7:30 a.m., people registered to receive notifications about an inmate's status from the Victim Information & Notification Everyday ("VINE") program received automated telephone calls and emails informing them that the West Virginia Division of Corrections ("WV DOC") was not providing information to the VINE program regarding its inmates.

A call to a representative of the VINE program informed the Commentator that the WV DOC has not changed its policy of providing inmate status information to the VINE program, but that the WV DOC was updating its database. When the update is complete, the VINE program will once again have access to the current status of inmates incarcerated in the WV DOC system. The representative said that people registered with VINE will receive another notification when the system is back on line.

The Commentator also contacted the WV DOC main office in Charleston. A receptionist stated that the WV DOC was aware of the problem and that technical support specialists were working on the problem. There was no expected date/time the system would be operational again.

Concerned persons can still check on an inmate's status (those inmates in the custody of the WV DOC and not the Regional Jail system), by clicking on the following link and entering the inmate's name:  http://www.wvdoc.com/wvdoc/OffenderSearch/tabid/117/Default.aspx
