Unemployment Rate Climbs Yet Again in Webster County



According to data released today by WorkForce West Virginia, Webster County's unemployment rate rose to 14.6 percent in January, 2013, compared to its December, 2012 rate of 13.7 percent.

Webster is tied with Calhoun County for the second highest unemployment rate in the State. Only neighboring Clay County is higher at 16.6 percent. Wirt, Grant, Wetzel, and Roane Counties also have unemployment rates greater than 12 percent.

Only two West Virginia counties, Monongalia and Jefferson, have unemployment rates less than six percent.

The State average remained at 7.4 percent despite unemployment increasing in 53 of the State's 55 counties.

  1. They need to put some kind of place in the old Go-mart where it would allow more job opportunities, but no there wanting a another bank.
    Maybe if it was something else other than it would help out a lot.

  2. Maybe someone should open another meth lab there in Webster Springs. Seems like they are opening up like Starbucks coffee shops down there.
