Superintendent Martha Dean Responds to Questions About Webster County School Consolidation Plan

Webster County Superintendent of Schools Martha Dean sat down with the editors of the Webster Commentator and Webster Echo/Republican on December 6, 2012 to respond to questions about the proposed school consolidation plan.

The interview, conducted at the Board of Education offices in Webster Springs, lasted about an hour. We have condensed the interview to about 35 minutes in the four videos below. We asked a wide range of questions, some of which have already been answered by the documents Dean presented to the Board, and some of which were not answered by those documents. There are certainly more questions that citizens will have at the upcoming public hearings, but we invite you to watch these four videos to learn more about the proposal.

  5. She was not comparing the community school to her husband rearranging furniture, she was saying that when her husband rearranges the furniture that she does not like change, and that is what she was meaning that the people does not like the change that is being made. She wasn't comparing the people of the Diana Community to furniture...

  6. If we are discussing numbers here than Hacket Valley in all accounts should be the school to close. Diana has 87 students, plus 20 students who have been allowed to attend Webster Springs. There should be zoning laws put in place. Diana would have over 100 students if this were the case. I am sure with all schools losing students that the principals aren't going to allow kids just to go where ever they wish. All our schools are needed in this county. There is a mountain in between each one. Our county has done all the consolidation it can do safely. It is in the best interest for our kids to keep these schools in place. There is already too many kids in the classes at Glade and Webster. I have personally heard complaints from parents from these schools that their kids have trouble learning in their classrooms because of too many kids disrupting the class and the teacher not having the time for them. Why would we send more kids into an already overcrowded room?
