Holly River State Park: Outdoor Lovers' Delight

Some of the best outdoor sites and activities in Webster County can be found at the Holly River State Park near Hacker Valley. Over 42 miles of hiking and biking trails are maintained at the Park. This video shows the upper Falls and boardwalk, Shupe's Chute, and Potato Knob.

Here is a link to all of the hiking trails in the Park:
More information about the Park can be accessed at this link:

Located on WV State Route 20 near Hacker Valley, the Park is 32 miles south of Buckhannon and 22 miles north of Webster Springs. The sites shown in the video accompanying this article can be accessed by turning onto County Route 3 and traveling about four miles up along the Left Fork of the Holly River (the State Park entrance is located about one mile from County Route 3).

Local Cowen area photographer Thomas R. Fletcher has some beautiful photographs of the upper Falls on his website, which can be accessed at the following links:

  1. One of the most beautiful places on earth! Mark and I met here, hiked these trails, swam at Shupe's Chute, and were married at the large pavilion on July 18,1981. Our favorite park in the USA! Mark and Maddy Talbert.
