Highlander Boys, Girls 4 x 800 Meter Track Teams Win LKC Championships

Both the Webster County Highlander boys and girls 4 x 800 meter relay teams captured first place championships at the Little Kanawha Conference track meet held on May 6 in Spencer.

The video accompanying this article shows all four legs of the Webster boys' team win. Starting in the first leg was Korbin White, who ran third at the end of his leg. Ben Cochran then ran the second leg and kept Webster in third place. Austin Hayes then turned in a scorching 1:58 third leg overtaking the leader and giving anchor Mathias Palmer a huge cushion to work with on the fourth and final leg.

Other performances for the Webster boys team of note included: Hayes' second place finish in the 1600 meter run (out of 32 competitors) with a time of 4:32.23; Hayes' fifth place finish in the 800 meter run (out of 34 competitors) with a time of 2:04.76; and a third place finish (out of ten teams) for the 4 x 400 relay team of Palmer, White, Cochran, and Hayes.

In addition to the girls 4 x 800 relay team win, here are some of the highlights for the girls results: Courtney Treadway finished sixth (out of 29 competitors) in the 400 meter dash; Treadway finished third (out of 27 competitors) in the 800 meter run; Courtney King finished third (out of 8 competitors) in the 3200 meter run; and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Sierra King, Courtney King, Courtney Treadway, and Madison Loughridge finished third out of ten teams.
