Webster County track athletes hope to compete in the State
championships in Charleston in two weeks.

Both the Webster boys and girls track teams head to Oak Glen, West Virginia this Friday, May 13, to compete in the Class AA, Region 1 track meet, which is a qualifying event for the State championships held in Charleston the following Friday and Saturday (May 20 and 21). Based upon recent performances, Webster fans are hopeful that several Highlander athletes will be heading to the State championships.
Last year, among 26 Class AA teams that had 18 events scored, the Webster boys' team finished 11th. Brettley Harris finished second in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and seventh in the 800 meter run. The next best performances behind Harris was that of the 4 x 800 meter relay team who finished sixth out of 16 teams. For the girls team last year, they finished tied for last out of 24 teams. The girls best performance was an 11th place finish out of 16 teams in the 4 x 800 meter relay.
