Today, the Webster County Grand Jury returned an indictment for murder on a major cold case.
On August 13, 2005, law enforcement authorities found the badly decomposed body of Flavy "Hughie" Sparks (age 32 at the time) along the bank of the Williams River near a campsite in the Monongahela National Forest in Webster County. According to a previous press release from the Webster County Sheriff's office, foul play was suspected. Sparks, a Nicholas County resident, had been reported missing a week earlier.
Today's indictment charges Daniel Joseph Tabor, age 44, with the crime. Tabor is currently a Division of Corrections inmate as a result of an unrelated criminal conviction from Nicholas County.
An indictment is a mere accusation and is not any evidence of a person's guilt.
